About the Trainer - Karen Minaker:
Karen has over 25 years of dog training experience, with organizations like Swansea Dog Obedience Club, Doggie Central and Inn on the Bark, all in the Toronto Area.
Karen has trained many of her own dogs for TV commercials, tracking, search and rescue, conformation championships, security and obedience.
She has been involved in rescue work and volunteered for many years with the EHS in cruelty - first person investigations.
CLASSES
Puppy Class:
Class for puppies from 12 weeks to 6 months of age, who have the minimum required 2 full sets of vaccinations including kennel cough. This class provides the puppy an opportunity to be socialized and is an introduction to basic obedience skills: come when called, attention, sit, down, stand and walk on a loose leash. It includes exercises specifically designed for this level, such as the puppy massage. It is also an opportunity to get some advice on common puppy problems such as house breaking and chewing, etc.
Beginner Class:
This class is for dogs of approximately 6 months of age and older who have completed the puppy class or dogs with no previous obedience training.
This class focuses on teaching and improving your dog's basic training on obedience skills as: come, attention, loose leash walking, sit, down , stand and stay. This is done through various exercises, both interesting and positive to the dog. It is also an opportunity to get some help on individual problems.
Advanced Beginner Class:
This class is for dogs who have successfully completed the beginner class or dogs who acquired basic obedience skills. This class builds further on your dog's basic obedience skills. Working on longer and steadier stays (sits and downs), recalls, heeling patterns with change of pace and direction & halts, figure 8, etc. Additional distractions are introduced and Increased lengths of time for the exercises are expected. This allows you to build on greater control with your dog.
Novice Competitive Obedience Class:
This class is for dogs who have successfully completed advanced beginner class or equivalent. It is for handlers interested in perfecting obedience skills or considering competitive obedience.
Formal obedience title exercises such as: recall, sit, down, and stand stays. Figure 8 an Introduction to off leash heeling are trained and practiced. Also an element of distraction is gradually introduced in order to "proof" the dog's ability to maintain focus.
Private Lessons:
Private lessons can be scheduled for one on one coaching on particular challenges or to perfect specific skills. In house training can be arranged.
