Orchids. . . One of the most mysterious and beautiful flowers around. They are actually easier to grow than you think. These exotic plants are known as epiphytes and grow on dead or decaying trees in the rain forests getting their nourishment and water from this environment. Don't be afraid to own one of these beauties. There are many varieties to choose from. The most common and easiest to grow is the Phalanopsis or Moth orchid. It likes a bright room with no direct sunlight, likes to be kept evenly moist and loves to be misted daily. Your orchid will bloom for weeks and often reblooms every year.
If you visit Meadowville on Feb. 20 & 21, you can see some other varieties such as fragrant Cattalayas, Oncidiums, Phaphapadiliums and Cymbidiums . . . magnificent! From 12 to 3 pm, a member of the Orchid Society will be with us to answer any questions you may have.
